Find the Balance

Have you ever been so excited for a show/concert that all you can think about is the outfit you’re going to wear or what the setlist might be? Then suddenly, you’re there at the venue, overstimulated and missing a jacket? No? Just me? Well, here’s a few things I’ve run into that may help you before your next show:

  1. Don’t drink too much!

Now, don’t get me wrong, pre-gaming is perfectly fine but make sure you don’t go overboard. A couple shots with friends before the Uber arrives, or a pitcher of margaritas at dinner before the show is the perfect balance. If, say, your friends decide to do shots at dinner with the margs. . . well, good luck. My husband and I did that before a jazz concert and let’s just say he didn’t get to see any of the show. But I know how alcohol prices can be, especially at large stadium venues or festivals so just try to find the right balance for you!

       2. Don’t forget ear plugs!

This is a new one for me and I’m still not completely comfortable with it, but I’ll say it: bring ear plugs! The most recent show I went to was a rave at Bill Graham in San Francisco to see Deorro and boy was that bass loud! We didn’t have any ear plugs for that event, but I think that is going to change. Protect your ears folks!

       3. Just because they say your dog is allowed, doesn’t mean you should bring them. . .

This is a little niche, but that jazz show I mentioned earlier was held at the Stow Lake Boathouse in San Francisco’s Golden Gate Park and said that it was dog friendly. Both my husband and I were excited to include or pup, so we bought our tickets and paid her dog fee. We got there late (there’s those margs!) and the only spot we could see open was right in front of the drummer (it was a jazz trio). Our poor dog had the whale eye and jumped at every beat. It was so loud (there’s those ear plugs!) that my husband took her outside after one song (he was also not feeling well). We ended up not sticking around for the end of the show.

Whatever the case might be, don’t let anything ruin your concert experience! Everything can be done in moderation, and maybe don’t always trust the advertisements. Just find that balance and have fun!
